Just what I need!,
The old APEX AD-1200 my wife used to watch HDVD from China stopped working all of a sudden. After doing research on Amazon, I narrowed it down to PIONEER DV-220V-K ($67) which has very good review and Philips DVP 3560K($67.99) which has no review. The specification is similar. I ended up picking the Philips because the non-Karaoke version Philips DVP 3560 and its prior version have very good review. Besides, the PIONEER seems to be an older model. I picked the Karaoke version because it as an usb port for thumb drive video creation and playback.
When it arrived, I was amazed at how small it is comparing to my old APEX AD-1200 or the PIONEER DVK-102. There is no s-video output. Since I connect it to an old tube TV, I use the RCA connection for now. Even then, the picture and sound quality seem better than our old APEX. The response time is decent.
I am able to view JPEG picture through the USB port without problem. I am disappointed that it won’t play .avi or .mov video format, but the spec. never says it does.
I have not tested other features but I am happy with my purchase.
